Mein "Dear Host Family-Letter"....

So, ich setzt jetzt einfach mal meinen DHL hier rein, vll hilft es ja einem anderen AuPair auch wie mir, einfach eine Vorlage zu haben (natürlich bitte nicht kopieren ;)... nur als Vorlage) Fands es gar nicht so einfach da einen Anfang zu finden und als ich dann solangsam reingekommen bin, konnt ich mich gar nicht mehr beschränken....dabei darf der Brief ja max. 1 DIN A4 Seite lang sein....find ich ganz schön wenig... Wahrscheinlich sind auch noch total viele Gramatik- und Rechtschreibfehler drin, aber schließlich will ich ja auch deshalb in die USA gehen, dann muss er ja bestimmt nicht perfekt sein....


"Dear Host Family,

My name is Julia and I was born on the 5th of March, 1986 in the former German Democratic Republic. When I was 3 years old my family moved to Schramberg a small village at the black forest in the south of Germany, next to France and Switzerland.


I am living together with my parents Isolde and Dieter and my little brother Florian. I have also got an older brother Manuel (22 years) who is living on his own in Stuttgart. Florian is 17 years old and I often spent some weeks alone with him in the last few years, when my parents went on holidays. In these weeks I cooked for him, helped him with his homework and took care of the household, like the laundry and cleaning. My family is pretty important to me, I love them all and I am really happy about their support for my wish to become an Au Pair.

There are many reasons for me why I want to be an Au Pair: Taking care of children, living together with a family in a new and unknown country, learning something about the culture, meeting new friends from the whole world, studying at a college and not at last to improve my English knowledge. It's a big dream for me since a few years and it will be a great and formative experience to share my life with your family for a whole year.


Now I would like to tell you something about my experiences with children.


In September 2005 and October 2006 I did two practical trainings at a kindergarten (2005 for one week and 2006 for two weeks). There were 15 children at the age of 2 to 7 and I helped the governess to supervise the group. We played games, ate together, sang songs, did handicrafts, read out for the kids and played in the big garden every day. I enjoyed these weeks and it was a helpful experience for me to care for so many kids at the same time.


In the summer holidays 2005 and 2006 I helped looking after kids between the age of 6 and 12 at a day-camp. There were always between 60 and 100 children every day and so the group I supervised changed every day. We had always a special topic (2005 it was "Indians" and 2006 "feel, taste and use the nature") and we made different activities according to the topic like walks through the forest, games in the nature, build wooden cabins, did handicrafts and every day we ate together with all children at the lunch brake. I also enjoyed these weeks very much and I will miss all the children.


Furthermore, I did a little bit babysitting for a family with 4 kids (10, 7, 5, 3 years) and a family with a 16 month old boy. It was often at the evening, so we first played something together, got ready for bed and finally I read out for every child. Unfortunately, both families did not need a babysitter any more but I hope to find a new family before my departure to gain more experiences.


For giving you a first impression of me I want to start telling you something about me and my personality:


I would describe me as a reliable, friendly, positive and open-minded woman who is interested in getting to know new countries and people. In my free time, I love doing different kind of sports (especially outdoors), playing volleyball, snowboarding and hiking. Furthermore I was part of a swimming team for more than 10 years and I really like swimming, so I would love to go together with your kids, too. Now since 5 years I am part of a woman volleyball team, we train together twice a week and play at the regional league against other teams. I adore this sport and will miss it to play together with my friends. I also enjoy baking, meeting my friends, watching new films at the cinema, reading a good book and travelling through Europe.


I have passed my driver's license in June 2005 and I drive almost daily without any accidents or tickets since that date. During my lessons in the driving school I have also attended a first aid course. Due to the fact that we have very much snow in our region I have experience with driving in snow and I am also experienced with driving at the motorway.


After I finished High School in July 2003 I started my vocational training as travel agent and hope to pass my final exams successfully next year. I work 40 hours every week and I know what it means to work more than have leisure time, although it was a hard reorientation after 11 years of school. After my Au Pair Year I want to continue working at the tourism industry, because I love this job.
